Ants are pesky and annoying. They are not only a nuisance, but they can cause serious damage to your home. They are a very common pest problem and have replaced cockroaches as the number 1 pest in the United States.
There are many types of ants and treatment will vary depending on the ant species. Ants, including carpenter ants and pavement ants are social insects; like bees and termites they live in large colonies where a queen ant is the only fertile female and is tended to and fed by worker ants. Ant identification plays an important role in controlling this pest.
Two types are common in Missouri: Carpenter Ants and Odorous House Ants.
Carpenter ants are larger than most ants, typically brownish-black in color and often they have wings. These ants love to eat wood and will cause dangerous structural damages to your home and surrounding buildings.
Odorous House ants are fairly small, black in color and while they do not cause direct damage to your home itself, they can quickly build an infestation in your kitchen or garden.
